The Research Centre for Energy Management conference '2030 EU Energy Security, the Role of the Eastern Mediterranean Region' took place on 10th December 2014 in Brussels, Belgium.

The significant discoveries of natural gas in the Levant basin, particularly in the Leviathan, Tamar and Aphrodite fields, have raised several questions.

How will the recently discovered hydrocarbon impact the region's energy security? How will natural gas change the geopolitical landscape of the Eastern Mediterranean? And will Eastern Mediterranean gas contribute in diversifying the EU's sources of supply in line with Europe's quest to strengthen its energy security?

The aim of the conference was to provide realistic and objective answers to the questions raised. The conference provided a platform for a rich debate around the importance of the new discoveries on both a regional and international level. Our speakers also highlighted the prerequisites and limitations to sourcing the market with natural gas supply. The event was led by Keynote Speaker  Henri Malosse, President, European Economic and Social Committee. We were honoured by the attendance of Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry & Tourism of Cyprus and Ioannis Maniatis, current Energy Minister of Greece who discussed the prospects for regional cooperation  to  support 2030 European Energy Targets. The conference was jointly organised by the Research Centre for Energy Management (RCEM), ESCP Europe Business School, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), Natural Gas Europe and the Greek Energy Forum. The event took place at EESC premises in Brussels.  Distinguished guests and energy experts explored the latest discoveries on both a regional and international level. Our speakers also highlighted the prerequisites and limitations to sourcing the market with natural gas supply. The Conference Dinner took place on 9th December at the Ergon restaurant, Rue du Parnasse 1, 1050, Ixelles (nearby Place du Luxemburg) in Brussels.
